One NZ SMS Delivery Retry Process

Does One NZ have a default delivery retry pattern for messages that are not delivered on the first attempt?

Yes, there is a configured retry profile which is followed over the message validity period with first re-attempt after 60 seconds in case of message delivery failure.

Is there a way to have all messages for one of our customers adhere to a custom retry pattern by default?

No, retries are based on network behaviour and are not customizable for individual subscribers

How is the validity period on messages handled for messages to recipients on the One NZ network?

It’s 24 hours for all application originated messages

What status is returned if the retry period passes and no DLR was returned from the handset?

Below DLR Status are returned as per SMPPv3.4 Standard, in this case, it will be EXPIRED

One NZ Retry Profile

The retry profile One NZ follows in general for most network errors e.g. “Absent Subscriber” is as follows;

| Minutes | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | | Schedule | 1/2 | 5/10 | 30/60 | 60/300 | 120/3840 |

The above means: Retry after every 1 min 2 times , then every 5 min 2 times, then every 30 min 2 times, then every 60 min 5 times, then 120 min 32 times – Valid until message validity period expires which in case of AO messages is 24 hours.

So message will be re-attempted @ 1st min, 2nd min, 7th min, 12th min, 42nd min, 72nd min, 132nd min… and so on.
